Our big news of the week has been securing a slot in the $500,000 Ladbrokes Protostar for 2yo pacers at Albion Park on Saturday, July 12.

While we did not have a slot in the first running of the feature last year, we did have two runners (The Highlight Reel and Cigano) for slot holders.

The Highlight Reel ran winner Fate Awaits to a half head in finishing second.

We’ve had a quiet start to the new season on the racing front, but have starters at the Shepparton Pacing Cup meeting on Saturday night and Hamilton Pacing Cup meeting on Sunday.

Techys Watching and Fairplay go to Shepparton.

We’re taking four to Hamilton, with Stormryder contesting the $30,000 Hamilton Pacing Cup and Harold Smith the $20,000 Hamilton Trotters Cup.

They’ll be joined by Uniquely Ideal and The Narcissist, with all four last-start winners.

Now a 4yo, Stormryder stepped into open age company for the first time in his latest two runs, taking out the Gordon Rothacker Memorial Championship heat and final.

An old stable favourite Manwarra Hatrick is getting closer to getting the second of her second offspring to the races.

The dam of race-winner Nogueira, her American Ideal 3yo colt Tuivasa made it two wins from two trial appearances at Melton on Tuesday night.

Manwarra Hatrick won eight of 10 career starts, winning the group 1 Vicbred Super Series final for 4yo mares in 2007.

Mach Dan and Perfect Class also had good hit-outs at the trials looking ahead to the Hunter Cup Carnival.
